TWT- Waterbury police said a city man has died after being shot outside state Superior Court in Waterbury Thursday morning.
The man was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries after being found by responding officers about 11:40 am
LT. Bessette said officers believe the victim was leaving the courthouse at 400 Grand St. after attending proceedings earlier in the day.
The perpetrator fled the scene but officers believe it was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public, Bessette said.
Connecticut State Police confirmed they were assisting the Waterbury Police Department with the investigation of the shooting.
Witnesses said the shooting happened on State Street, on the side of the court building and next to the court parking garage.
Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo said detectives continue to investigate.
“Not many details yet,” he said early Thursday afternoon. “We do know it was an isolated incident,” he said.
