Waterbury, CT- Cabo Verde, an island nation off the northwest coast of Africa known for its beautiful beaches and volcanic landscapes, is currently facing a heartbreaking disaster. The island of São Vicente has been hit by intense flooding caused by heavy thunderstorms. Preliminary reports from the Civil Protection Councilor José Carlos indicate that at least six people have lost their lives in the floods, including four children.

Cabo Verde, also called Cape Verde, consists of 10 volcanic islands and is home to around half a million people. São Vicente, one of its main islands, is known for its cultural vibrancy and the city of Mindelo, famous for music and festivals.
