WATERBURY — The Brass City is officially stepping into the holiday season. On Thursday morning, city workers were out on Bank Street, carefully hanging festive wreaths and decorations as part of Waterbury’s annual downtown holiday makeover.
The seasonal tradition marks the beginning of the city’s winter celebrations, bringing cheerful lights and greenery to one of Waterbury’s oldest and historic corridors.
City officials say the decorations symbolize more than aesthetics—they help boost foot traffic, support small businesses, and create a welcoming atmosphere throughout December.

Residents can expect additional holiday touches across the downtown district in the coming days, including garlands, street pole lights, and the setup of Waterbury’s annual Christmas tree on the Green. Local businesses are also preparing storefront displays as part of the season’s festivities.

With the wreaths now up, the city is officially embracing the holidays—one decoration at a time.
