Position: Maintainer I – City of Waterbury, CT
Salary: $18.58 – $25.86 per hour
Note: New hires start at the beginning of the pay range.

Building Maintenance & Security
- Routine cleaning and sanitation tasks
- Minor building and equipment repairs
- Delivering packages or messages
- Building safety and security monitoring
- Trash removal and grounds upkeep (snow shoveling, lawn care)
Grounds Maintenance
- Routine manual work maintaining city parks and public spaces
- Operation of hand and motorized lawn mowers
- Playground and facility repairs
- General building and grounds upkeep
Manual Labor Division
- Heavy lifting, loading and unloading
- Sewer and manhole maintenance
- Transporting equipment, materials, and supplies
- Assisting skilled workers in carpentry, plumbing, and more
Trades Helper
- Assists with carpentry, cabinetry, furniture repair
- Rough carpentry work and material handling
- Tool filing, sanding, sharpening, and equipment upkeep
- May perform journeyman-level tasks under supervision
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Basic recordkeeping skills
- Reliability and strong work ethic
- Ability to work outdoors and in adverse weather
- Ability to lift heavy objects

Minimum Experience & Training
To qualify, applicants must have one of the following by the closing date:
- A High School Diploma or GED, OR
- One (1) year of experience in any of the following:
- Building maintenance or building security
- Grounds maintenance
- General manual labor
- Serving as a helper to a skilled tradesperson
Additional Requirement
A valid Connecticut State Driver’s License is required for certain assignments.
Copies of diplomas, transcripts, or GED certificates must be submitted with the application, if applicable.
