Waterbury, CT Just two hours from Manhattan on a good traffic day (nine if you’re unlucky), and apparently, everything in Waterbury comes from New York. At least, that’s what some people say.

Take this recent The Waterbury Times Facebook comment thread on our Angel Avenue drug raid post:
Ariana claimed,
“Cause New Yorkers moved to Waterbury and brought their customs with them. I said wassup???”
To which Cindy replied,
“Ariana Huerta do you live in Waterbury? If you did, you’d know this area.”
Classic. According to some, New Yorkers apparently invented our slang, our style, even our local habits—because clearly, Waterbury had nothing going for it before they arrived.
Waterbury Police Raid Angel Drive Apartment, Seize Drugs and Firearms; Multiple Arrests Made
And yes, we are aware of The Waterbury Times—New York Times, names for our city’s news. Dont let facts get in the way of a good story.
Let’s be real: Waterbury has its own culture, its own style, and a personality that isn’t “borrowed” from the Big Apple. But it’s fun to watch the friendly rivalry play out. With Thanksgiving around the corner, when New Yorkers flood CT and locals head into the city, these claims will probably resurface—along with the traffic complaints.

So, next time someone says, “New Yorkers brought all this to Waterbury,” just smile, nod, and remember: the city’s personality has always been Brass City first, Big Apple maybe second.
