A major water main break left Waterbury without water service, including the crucial fire hydrants, just as an overnight fire broke out at Albert Bros. Garage on East Aurora Street. The fire, which started around 3:30 AM, forced Waterbury to call in assistance from neighboring towns to help battle the blaze. Adding to the challenge, the city was hit by a snowstorm, which delayed mutual aid and further complicated firefighting efforts.
The water main break, which occurred Friday evening, disabled the city’s water supply, leaving fire crews unable to access water from hydrants. Firefighters had no choice but to rely on tanker trucks from neighboring towns to provide the water needed to fight the fire.
Waterbury Breaking News- Water Main Break- update
The snowstorm, which began late Saturday night, made conditions even more difficult. Despite the weather, these towns provided much-needed assistance, helping Waterbury’s fire department to gain control of the fire.
By morning, the fire was under control, though it continued to burn for several hours. The damage to Albert Bros. Garage was extensive, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Firefighters worked tirelessly in challenging conditions, coordinating with mutual aid departments to contain the fire and protect nearby structures.
Waterbury’s aging infrastructure was thrust into the spotlight as the water main break exposed vulnerabilities in the city’s emergency response systems. With water supply cut off, the city was left scrambling to manage the fire without the critical resources typically available.
The city’s public works department is working around the clock to repair the water main, and officials expect service to be restored in the next 24 to 48 hours. Despite the ongoing snowstorm and disruptions, the city’s first responders have continued to manage multiple emergencies in a coordinated effort.
