WATERBURY, CT — Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. announced that water service has been restored citywide following the major water main failure that disrupted service across Waterbury. However, city officials noted that residents in East Mountain neighborhoods may continue to experience delays as water pressure stabilizes.
Waterbury’s Water Service Restored Citywide; Boil Water Advisory Remains in Effect
According to the Mayor’s Office, East Mountain neighborhoods receive water through a supply tank system. That tank is currently filling, and once it reaches an adequate level, pressure will increase and water service will begin flowing to homes in those areas.
City officials emphasized that this is a pressure-related delay, not a new service interruption.
For the rest of the city, residents who do not currently have running water are likely experiencing an air lock within their individual service lines. The City of Waterbury is actively responding to these reports.
Residents without flowing water are encouraged to contact 311 or (203) 597-3444 to report their address so Water Department crews can be dispatched. Residents may also send a private message to the Mayor’s Office through the City of Waterbury’s official social media channels for assistance.
While water service has been restored, the city remains under a boil water advisory. Officials confirmed that water samples will be collected and sent to a state-certified laboratory for testing. Results are expected to be returned on Thursday. The advisory will remain in effect until testing confirms the water is free of bacteria and safe for consumption.
Mayor Pernerewski acknowledged the disruption residents have experienced and thanked the community for its patience throughout the restoration process.
“We understand how difficult and stressful this situation has been for residents and families across our city,” Mayor Pernerewski said. “Our teams are continuing to respond quickly to remaining issues while ensuring the safety of our water supply remains our top priority.”
City officials said updates will continue to be provided as testing results are received and remaining service issues are resolved. Residents are reminded to continue following boil water guidelines until the advisory is officially lifted.
