WATERBURY — The Wilby Wildcats continued their strong start to the season Tuesday night, improving to 2–0 with a double-digit victory over crosstown rival Kennedy at the Bucks Hill Complex.

The game opened with plenty of nervous energy on both sides, as early fouls, rushed possessions, and missed shots defined the first few minutes. Wilby eventually settled in, and once they did, the tone quickly shifted.
Behind a big first quarter from long range—knocking down four three-pointers—the Wildcats created separation. That shooting surge, paired with Wilby’s trademark full-court trap defense, helped them close the opening quarter on top 19–8.
Wilby kept its foot on the gas in the second quarter, leaning heavily on defense and hustle plays. Charges drawn, scrappy loose-ball battles, and even a brief stoppage to clean blood from the floor highlighted the intensity. By halftime, the Wildcats had stretched the lead to 38–19.
Kennedy refused to go quietly. The Eagles came out of the locker room aggressive and finally found a rhythm, ripping off a 14–4 run in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 42–33 with just under three minutes remaining.
Wilby answered when it mattered most. The Wildcats weathered the surge and closed the third quarter strong, restoring a 13-point cushion at 48–35.
The fourth quarter was evenly played, with both teams scoring 13 points apiece. Kennedy showed composure and offensive flow late, but the early hole proved too deep to climb out of.

Kennedy falls to 2–2 on the season, while Wilby remains unbeaten at 2–0.
Up next: Wilby returns home Saturday to face New Britain, while Kennedy hits the road to take on Platt Tech.
