WATERBURY, CT — A Waterbury resident has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal stabbing that occurred last week at a Grove Street apartment building.
Police have identified Kendren Barnes, 47, of Waterbury, as one of the individuals involved in a physical disturbance that took place on December 27, 2025, at 144 Grove Street. One victim died as a result of injuries sustained during the incident.
According to the Waterbury Police Department, Barnes was taken into custody on December 29, 2025, and formally charged with Murder. He has been turned over to the court and was assigned a $2.5 million bond.

On December 27 at approximately 7:17 p.m., Waterbury Police Patrol Officers responded to 144 Grove Street following reports of a physical altercation inside the building involving a weapon.
Upon arrival, officers located two adult male victims suffering from injuries consistent with being inflicted by an edged weapon. Both victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment. One of the victims later succumbed to his injuries.
Police have stated that the incident appears to be isolated and involved several known individuals. Authorities emphasized that there are no active threats to the public or residents of the building at this time.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, with detectives continuing to gather information and evidence related to the case.
