WATERBURY, CT — The City of Waterbury has activated its Severe Cold Weather Protocol in response to dangerously cold temperatures forecasted for the coming days.
COLD WEATHER WARNING — WATERBURY CT
The protocol went into effect at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, and will remain active through Sunday, January 4, at 12:00 p.m., in accordance with the State of Connecticut’s cold weather guidelines.
Weather forecasts indicate prolonged periods of extreme cold combined with strong winds. Wind chill values are expected to drop into the single digits late Monday night into early Tuesday, with even colder conditions anticipated later in the week. From Thursday through early Sunday, wind chills are expected to reach zero or below, particularly during morning hours.
Emergency Warming Shelter Activated
To protect residents during this period of extreme cold, the North End Recreation Center has been designated as an emergency warming shelter and will operate with extended hours through the duration of the protocol.

Open 24 hours a day
St. Vincent de Paul Mission Shelter
114 Benedict Street
Open 24 hours a day
Center for Human Development Hospitality Center
690 East Main Street
Open 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Waterbury Senior Center
1985 East Main Street
Available to senior citizens 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Additional Resources
Residents in need of additional assistance or services can call Connecticut 211, operated by the United Way, for information on shelter, food, and emergency resources.
City officials are urging residents to take precautions during the extreme cold, including checking on elderly neighbors, family members, and others who may be vulnerable to harsh weather conditions.
