Waterbury Man Identified as Victim in Fatal Grove Street Stabbing; Suspect Charged with Murder

Waterbury, CT) — The victim who died from injuries sustained during a violent disturbance on Grove Street has been identified as Ricardo Maldonado, 57, of Waterbury, according to Waterbury Police.

Recap of the Incident

On December 27, 2025, at approximately 7:17 p.m., Waterbury Police Patrol Officers responded to 144 Grove Street for reports of a physical altercation inside the building involving a weapon.

Upon arrival, officers located two male victims, later identified as Ricardo Maldonado and Kendren Barnes, both suffering from injuries consistent with being inflicted by an edged weapon. Both men were transported to local area hospitals for treatment.

Maldonado later succumbed to his injuries.

Suspect Charged

On December 29, 2025, Waterbury resident Kendren Barnes, 47, was redetermined to be a suspect in the incident. Barnes was taken into custody and formally charged with Murder.

Waterbury Man Charged With Murder Following Fatal Grove Street Stabbing

Barnes has since been turned over to the court and was assigned a $2.5 million bond. Police report that Barnes has an extensive history of violence and has been frequently arrested in the past.
