The Waterbury Times|Published Jan 2, 2026

Waterbury-The City of Waterbury mourns the loss of Barbara Davitt, a true broadcasting pioneer and the unmistakable voice of WATR for more than six decades.

Barbara was not simply a radio host—she was a daily companion to generations of listeners and a trusted presence in homes, businesses, and City Hall alike.

Beginning her career in radio in the late 1950s and arriving at WATR on November 22, 1963, Barbara Davitt went on to host Coffee Break for 61 years, making it one of the longest-running radio programs in the nation. Through her work, she championed civic engagement, community service, and local causes, always using her platform to connect people and strengthen the fabric of our city.

Barbara’s voice helped define Waterbury radio, and her commitment to the community set a standard that will not be forgotten. On behalf of the City of Waterbury, I extend my deepest condolences to her family, her colleagues at WATR, and the countless listeners whose mornings were shaped by her warmth, professionalism, and dedication.

Barbara Davitt’s legacy will live on as the queen of Waterbury radio and as a lasting symbol of community service and connection.
