Waterbury-The Spartans defended home court the way a three-time defending champion should—decisively.

WCA pulled away for a commanding 90–66 win over a Crosby Bulldogs team that started season red hot . When the dust settled, one thing remained clear: the champs are still here.
Crosby came out firing, jumping to a 19–14 first-quarter lead behind the hot shooting of Julien Benjamin, who looked comfortable early and set the tone for the Bulldogs.

The second quarter, however, belonged entirely to the Spartans.
Enter Axel Colon—think Draymond Green without the antics. Hustle plays, rebounds, blocks, and pure energy flipped the game on its head. Colon sparked a run that overwhelmed Crosby, as WCA surged to a 41–25 halftime lead.

Crosby showed fight to open the second half, ripping off a 9–2 run that briefly shifted momentum. But once again, Colon stepped in and reset the tempo. From there, the floodgates opened.
WCA’s size became a major factor in the third quarter, overwhelming the smaller, faster Bulldogs. Alex Turner led the charge with relentless defensive pressure, fueling full-court chaos that frustrated Crosby and stretched the lead to 68–43. Turner finished the night with 23 points, setting the tone on both ends.

The fourth quarter showcased Crosby’s pride and grit. The Bulldogs continued to compete, highlighted by a heated exchange between the Crosby bench and the officials—an unmistakable sign of the passion that defines Waterbury hoops.

Despite the loss, Julien Benjamin was sensational, finishing with a game-high 30 points.
