Yeanier Osorio-Medina, born in 2006, appeared in Waterbury Superior Court on January 6, 2026, for sentencing following guilty pleas to Murder and Criminal Possession of a Firearm stemming from the May 6, 2024 shooting.
Court records show Osorio-Medina was arrested on May 24, 2024 by Waterbury Police and has remained in custody since that time. His bond was set at $4 million, designated cash only with a gun variable, and he was not released.
The murder charge, filed under Connecticut General Statute 53a-54a, is a Class A felony, the most serious criminal charge under state law. Osorio-Medina also pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a firearm or ammunition, a Class C felony, under statute 53a-217.
The shooting occurred in the middle of the day on Wood Street, a residential corridor, intensifying community concern and drawing attention to ongoing issues surrounding gun violence and youth involvement in serious crimes.
Osorio-Medina appeared on the court docket 15 times during the pendency of the case before reaching a disposition.
Sentencing concludes a case that has remained active in the Waterbury Judicial District for more than a year and a half, marking a significant moment for the victim’s family and the wider community affected by the violence.
