The Waterbury Times-NVL Boys Basketball Power Rankings: Woodland Remains Perfect as League Race Tightens

By The Waterbury Times Sports Desk

As the NVL boys basketball season moves deeper into league play, clarity is beginning to form at the top — and pressure is mounting everywhere else.

Woodland continues to set the standard, remaining unbeaten and firmly planted at No. 1, while a tightly packed middle tier shows just how competitive the NVL has become. With records tightening and head-to-head matchups looming, every game now carries postseason implications.

Here’s the up-to-the-minute NVL Top 10 Power Rankings, as compiled by The Waterbury Times:

1. Woodland (7-0)

Woodland remains flawless. The Warriors have controlled games on both ends of the floor and continue to separate themselves as the league’s most complete team. Until someone hands them a loss, the top spot is theirs.

2. Torrington (6-1)

Torrington’s steady climb continues. The Raiders have responded well to adversity and are playing disciplined, confident basketball. Their consistency earns them the No. 2 ranking.

3. Watertown (7-1)

Watertown’s body of work keeps them firmly in the title conversation. Their balance and depth make them one of the most dangerous teams in the NVL. There lone loss is to #2 ranked Torrington.

4. Wilby (6-2)

Wilby has emerged as one of the league’s hottest teams. Strong guard play and improved execution have pushed the Wildcats into the upper tier of the rankings.

5. St. Paul (6-2)

St. Paul remains steady and physical. They don’t overwhelm opponents, but they consistently win the games they’re supposed to — a hallmark of a postseason-ready team. Huge road win at WCA

6. Ansonia (5-3)

Ansonia sits right in the middle of the pack, capable of swinging the standings either way. On any given night, they can challenge teams above them.

7. Naugatuck (5-2)

The Greyhounds’ record keeps them relevant, but upcoming matchups will determine whether they rise or slide. They remain a tough out league-wide.

8. Holy Cross (5-4)

Holy Cross has clawed back to above .500. While consistency has been an issue, their ability to compete with higher-ranked teams keeps them firmly in the Top 10.

9. WCA (3-5)

The Spartans have hit a rough stretch, but effort has not been the issue. With the right adjustments, WCA could still disrupt the standings down the stretch.

10. Crosby (4-4)

Crosby rounds out the rankings at .500. The Bulldogs have shown flashes but will need more consistency to move up in a crowded NVL field.

The Waterbury Times Take:
With Woodland setting the pace and several teams bunched closely behind, the NVL race is far from settled. Expect movement, surprises, and statement games as teams jockey for playoff positioning in the weeks ahead.
