City of Waterbury Closes Offices for Non-Essential Employees Due to Winter Storm

WATERBURY, CT — Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. announced that all City of Waterbury offices will be closed Monday, January 26, 2026, for non-essential employees due to severe winter weather and hazardous road conditions.

According to the city, nearly 20 inches of snow has already fallen, with additional snowfall expected through the morning and into the early afternoon. Officials say road conditions remain dangerous, and public safety is the administration’s top priority.

The Department of Public Works and other city personnel have been working throughout the day and will continue overnight snow removal and storm response operations to keep roads passable and maintain essential services.

Mayor Pernerewski expressed his appreciation for DPW crews and other essential staff for their continued efforts during the storm.

Essential employees are expected to report to work as directed by their department heads.

City officials urge residents and employees to stay off the roads when possible and to prioritize personal safety as storm response efforts continue.
