PROSPECT/BEACON FALLS — A serious bus accident involving Nonnewaug High School students from Prospect and Beacon Falls occurred this afternoon, sending multiple students to area hospitals.

According to school officials, some students sustained serious injuries and are currently being treated at St. Mary’s Hospital and Waterbury Hospital. Several additional students, along with the bus driver, were transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution.

The total number of injured students has not yet been released, and the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.

Nonnewaug High School officials confirmed that counseling services will be available for students and staff beginning at 7:10 a.m. tomorrow morning at the school. Administrators say counselors were alerted immediately following the incident to provide support during what is expected to be a difficult time for the school community.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with our students and their families,” school officials said in a statement.

Parents and guardians seeking additional information are encouraged to contact Nonnewaug High School Principal Mykal Kuslis through the school’s main office.

This is a developing story. The Waterbury Times will provide updates as more information becomes available.
