(If The Playoffs Started Today)
TWT SPORTS DESK|Published Feb 10, 2026
Waterbury-With the regular season winding down, the NVL tournament race is tightening — and if the playoffs started today, the bracket would already have some serious storylines.
Let’s break it down.

🥇 1. Woodland (15-0)
Woodland is the clear favorite and the only undefeated team in league play. The Hawks have locked in the No. 1 seed and would await the winner of a play-in matchup.
They are the team everyone is chasing.
🥈 2. Wilby (12-2)
Wilby holds the edge for the two seed with the second-best winning percentage in the league. The Wildcats’ pressure defense and depth make them a real threat to cut down the nets. The Watertown loss could haunt the Wildcats in a tie break scenario with Holy Cross.
🥉 3. Holy Cross (12-4)
The Crusaders are battle-tested and sit comfortably at the three spot however if Wilby stumbles down the stretch they could grab the 2 seed. They’ve taken some losses but remain one of the most dangerous tournament teams in the league.
4. Torrington (8-4)
Torrington currently owns the tiebreaker over Watertown after handing them their first loss of the season. That head-to-head win could prove huge for bracket positioning.
5. Watertown (10-5)
Watertown’s overall body of work is strong, but the head-to-head loss to Torrington currently slots them fifth.
6. St. Paul (8-5)
St. Paul quietly sits in a solid position and would avoid the play-in round if the season ended today.
🎟 Play-In Round (If It Started Today)
Assuming WCA clinches — and they need just one win in their final four games to lock it up — here’s how it would look:
7️⃣ Ansonia (8-6) vs 🔟 Crosby (7-7)
8️⃣ WCA (7-6) vs 9️⃣ Naugatuck (7-7)
Naugatuck wins the tiebreaker over Crosby due to stronger results against top seeds, including a win over Wilby.

🏀 Quarterfinal Matchups
If higher seeds advance from the play-in:
1️⃣ Woodland vs 8️⃣ WCA
2️⃣ Wilby vs 7️⃣ Ansonia
3️⃣ Holy Cross vs 6️⃣ St. Paul
4️⃣ Torrington vs 5️⃣ Watertown
And that 4-5 game? That could be a war. And who wouldn’t want a Woodland v WCA right out the gate?
🔥 What’s At Stake
- Woodland is the clear front-runner.
- Wilby and Holy Cross are positioned on opposite sides of the bracket no matter what happens so a Holy Cross v Wilby finals potential exists.
- Torrington’s head-to-head win over Watertown may have changed the entire tournament path.
- WCA controls its own destiny — one win and they’re in.
The final weeks will determine home sites, momentum, and who avoids that dangerous 7-10 range.
One thing is clear: this NVL tournament will not be predictable.
