Waterbury-The 2025–26 Naugatuck Valley League (NVL) boys basketball season delivered one of the most competitive and talent-rich campaigns in recent memory. From explosive scoring nights to lockdown defensive performances and breakout underclassmen, the league showcased depth across every roster.

The TWT Sports Desk followed along all-season through our Game Night in the Brass City, Game film from Waterbury Public Schools, and in person attendances. We have watched every NVL team multiple times ( except Derby) and we are proud to announce the official nominees for the 2026 TWT SPORTS DESK NVL Boys Basketball Awards.


🏆 Player of the Year

The league’s most impactful, consistent, and dominant all-around performers:

  1. There is a lot of talent across all the high school teams in the NVL . I find it hard to believe that there was not even one player from Naugatuck High School selected. Stats should also be looked at when selecting a player. Just because a team wasn’t one of the top teams does not mean that there is no talent on the team .

    1. You are absolutely right- and we apologize deeply- a whole section is missing. Kichen/Smalls/Massicote ( who won our GNIBC Player of the Game) and Black all should be featured. We are correcting and there is a live show we are doing on Friday. We are making the edits now. Thanks for speaking up. Naugatuck is one of the toughest teams we watched. No slight was intended.

    Can you please tell me where I can see the stats?

    1. Unfortunately, there is no centralized data base. However, using Maxprep you can search team by team yet, not all schools track all stats. We are trying to get this centralized.
