Waterbury-It’s been just about three months since the massive Waterbury water main break, and the city is still feeling the impact — but the response showed what happens when a community comes together.
The Waterbury Times didn’t just cover the crisis — we were in the middle of it. We collected addresses from our followers and helped dispatch Board of Aldermen members George Noujaim, Michael Divigiocarlo, Shawn Mosley, Kelly Zimmerman and Adrian Sanchez, among others coordinating water deliveries across the hardest-hit neighborhoods. We also rode alongside 5th District Congressional candidate John DeBarros, handing out bottled water directly to residents in need.

On top of that, our coverage brought the story to the community in real time. Posts on TikTok and Facebook were seen over 500K times, and our website articles were read more than 3,000 times, making sure residents had both updates and resources during the outage.
This was more than a water main breaking — it was neighbors helping neighbors, officials on the streets, and a local media outlet stepping up to coordinate relief and keep everyone informed.
THE REAL STORY BEHIND WATERBURY’S WATER MAIN BREAKS
Even with service restored, questions remain about infrastructure, emergency preparedness, and how the city can prevent a crisis like this in the future. The Waterbury Times will keep following these developments, reporting and acting alongside our community every step of the way.
