A Message to the Waterbury Times Community
Hello Waterbury,
This is your host, D.M. Livingston of The Waterbury Times. First, I want to thank everyone who has reached out, checked in, or simply wondered where I’ve been over the last few weeks. Your concern means everything to me.
I want to share this openly and honestly:
I am currently receiving treatment for a mental-health condition. After experiencing a manic episode — one that likely went on longer than I realized — I was evaluated at Waterbury Hospital and then admitted to an inpatient program in Hartford. I’ve now been here for a week, focusing on stabilizing my mental, physical, and spiritual health.

After conversations with my doctors, therapists, and social-work team, it’s clear that stepping back from being the face and voice of The Waterbury Times is the healthiest decision for me right now. This was not an easy choice. I love this city. I love this community. And the love Waterbury has shown me since day one is something I will never forget.
I will be taking the remainder of the year to rest, recover, and reset. My plan is to return in January 2025 with a relaunch of The Waterbury Times FB News and The Thursday Mixer, supported by a small volunteer team to help share the load and keep our community informed without overwhelming my health.
When I am discharged in the coming weeks, I’ll share a video going deeper into everything — not just my experience, but an important reminder:
Mental health is real. It can affect anyone. And there is no shame in asking for help.
If you or someone you love is struggling, please reach out — to friends, to family, to a therapist, to 211, or the suicide prevention hotline. We are never as alone as we feel in those moments. There are resources, there is support, and there is hope.
Thank you, Waterbury, for the love and patience.
I’m getting stronger every day, and I will bounce back from this.

Stay safe, Waterbury… and as always:
PEACE PEACE.
