The time to elect the new Leader of the Free World is rapidly approaching with former President Trump running against current Vice-President Kamala Harris on Nov. 5th.

3rd verse…same as the 1st?

Donald J. Trump shocked the world in 2016 with is defeat of Senator Hillary Clinton to become the 45th President of the United States. Trump’s presidency was one that saw the Tax Reform Act of 2017, the appointing of 3 justices to the Supreme Court which changed the face of the court, and also the Covid 19 response. However, his presidency also saw his crude remarks, allegations of Russian interference, and a say anything attitude never before heard from the highest office in the land.

President Trump’s approval rating was in the 50% range for half of his term before falling to below 40% by the end of the it. His loss to Joe Biden in 2020 would divide the country politically as never before and set the stage for a 2024 rematch. However, that rematch would only last 1 debate as Biden would bow out the race making way for Vice President Kamala Harris to take of the mantle for the Democrats.

Vice President Kamala Harris made history in 2020 by becoming the 1st Black women, 1st women, and 1st South Asian American to the hold the office. She also made history by becoming the first Black female District attorney of San Francisco in 2004 and again in 2010 by becoming the Attorney General of California. Kamala Harris tenure included significant work on consumer protection, criminal justice reform, and environmental issues.

Harris has also faced scrutiny and backlash for her support of mandatory minimum sentences, the prosecution of non violent criminal offences which many have blamed for California mass incarceration epidemic. She has also prosecuted parents for truancy which disproportionately effects minorities. Lastly, Kamala Harris did not fair very well in her V.P. debates in 2019 which left some questioning here stances of various political issues. With president Biden stepping aside the spotlight has shifted to Harris as the person to defeat Trump on Nov 5th.

So who should we vote for come November? The candidate we dislike the least seems to be the strategy for most Americans. One thing for sure is that after 4 years of Biden it can not possibly get any worse…..CAN IT?
