Waterbury Elects New Board of Aldermen: Mayor Pernerewski’s Team Holds Majority as City Looks Ahead

Waterbury voters went to the polls Tuesday underneath the full moon to elect the city’s next Board of Aldermen, reaffirming Mayor Paul Pernerewski’s Democratic slate with a 10–5 majority. While the balance of power remains unchanged, the results bring a mix of new voices and returning incumbents, signaling both stability and renewal in city leadership.

Republican candidates ran a strong, issues-focused campaign but ultimately fell short of gaining new seats. Their participation contributed to a spirited and engaging election season—one that underscored the dedication of residents and candidates from every corner of the city.

As the new Board prepares to begin its term, the call from voters is clear: put Waterbury first. The city’s future will depend on leaders working together across party lines to strengthen neighborhoods, improve public safety, and expand opportunity for all residents.

Every candidate who stepped forward to serve deserves recognition for their effort and commitment. The next chapter begins now—with unity, collaboration, and a shared belief that there’s no “us versus them” in Waterbury—only us.
