Job Overview
Blight Operators perform a wide range of manual and mechanical tasks designed to combat blight throughout Waterbury. Daily responsibilities include:
- Litter and junk removal
- Graffiti abatement
- Snow shoveling, lawn mowing, and general grounds maintenance
- Vegetation trimming and removal
- Operation of power equipment (mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, etc.)
- Operating pickup trucks, dump trucks, and “MadVac” mechanical litter collectors
- Performing routine heavy manual labor, lifting and loading
- Basic equipment maintenance
This role is essential in supporting neighborhood quality of life and assisting the city’s efforts to maintain clean, safe public spaces.

Required Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- A high school diploma or GED (must be submitted with application)

- Basic interpersonal, communication, and record-keeping skills
A DMV-issued Driving History Report (less than 30 days old) will be required if a conditional offer is made.
