Wilby High School Awarded $50,000 State Grant to Expand Agricultural Education

Waterbury, CT State Representative Ron Napoli, Jr. announced today that the Connecticut Department of Agriculture has awarded approximately $50,000 to Wilby High School to launch a major farm-to-school initiative within Waterbury Public Schools.

The grant will significantly expand Wilby’s capacity to provide hands-on agricultural education, giving students access to experiential learning opportunities that connect classroom instruction to real-world food systems, sustainability practices, and career pathways.

Representative Napoli, speaking on behalf of the Waterbury State Delegation, said he was proud to help secure the investment, noting that programs like these strengthen both education and community engagement.

The initiative aligns with statewide efforts to increase agricultural literacy, support local food ecosystems, and create modern, career-focused learning environments for Connecticut students.

  1. Wilby’s Farm to School initiative will give students an opportunity to learn where thier food comes from, at the same time respecting the land. Their work will show how hard farmers work & teach them not to waste.
