Waterbury- The Waterbury Times has learned through internal sources that the inmate responsible for the violent attack on a correction officer at Osborn Correctional Institution earlier this week has been found dead under unclear circumstances.

UPDATE: Osborn Correctional Incident- Inmate Confirmed Dead

The Connecticut Department of Correction has not yet issued a public statement, and the alleged death has not appeared in any official reports as of Thursday morning. However, sources inside the facility spoke with the Times on condition of anonymity, report that the inmate was discovered unresponsive following Monday’s assault.

According to earlier reporting, by various CT outlets, the inmate launched an unprovoked attack on a veteran correction officer, choking and striking her repeatedly. Union officials described the assault as “brutal,” noting that the officer suffered significant injuries. After being subdued, the inmate was transferred to another unit while the DOC began an internal investigation.

The circumstances surrounding the inmate’s reported death remain unclear, including the time it occurred, whether medical staff attempted resuscitation, and whether foul play is suspected. Staff inside the facility describe a tense atmosphere following the attack, with additional security measures implemented during the week.

The Waterbury Times is actively seeking confirmation from the Department of Correction and will update this story as soon as official information becomes available.

This is a developing story.
