WATERBURY, CT — Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. announced Wednesday that water service has now been restored citywide following the major water main failure that disrupted service across Waterbury.

According to the Mayor’s Office, all residents should now have water available in their homes. However, some households may still be experiencing issues due to air locks in individual service lines. City officials say crews are actively responding to those cases.

THE REAL STORY BEHIND WATERBURY’S WATER MAIN BREAKS

Residents without running water are urged to contact 311 or (203) 597-3444 to report their address so Water Department crews can be dispatched. Residents may also send a private message to the Mayor’s Office through the City of Waterbury’s official social media channels to request assistance.

Despite the restoration of service, the city remains under a boil water advisory. Officials confirmed that water samples will be collected and sent to a state-certified laboratory for testing. Results are expected to be returned on Thursday. The advisory will remain in place until testing confirms the water is free of bacteria and safe for consumption.

Mayor Pernerewski acknowledged the significant disruption residents have faced and thanked the community for its patience throughout the emergency response.

“We understand how difficult and stressful this situation has been for residents and families across our city,” the mayor said. “Our teams are continuing to respond quickly to remaining issues while ensuring the safety of our water supply remains our top priority.”

City officials said updates will continue to be provided as test results are received and any remaining service issues are resolved.

Residents are reminded to continue following boil water guidelines until the advisory is officially lifted.
