WATERBURY, CT — Kennedy High School’s strong 2–0 start to the NVL boys basketball season came to a halt Saturday afternoon as the Eagles fell to undefeated Woodland Regional High School, 78–46, in a key early-season NVL matchup.
Woodland seized control from the opening tip, jumping out to a 28–12 first-quarter lead and maintaining pressure throughout the night with balanced scoring and relentless tempo. The Hawks extended the margin in the second and third quarters, building a decisive advantage before Kennedy closed strong late.
The Eagles showed resilience in the fourth quarter, outscoring Woodland 13–10, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
With the loss, Kennedy moves to 2–1 on the season, while Woodland improves to 3–0, remaining unbeaten and positioning itself as an early NVL contender.
Next up, Kennedy faces a major test on the road and on the city stage, taking on 1–0 crosstown and CIAC Division III rival Wilby Wildcats in a highly anticipated Waterbury rivalry matchup that carries both NVL and state tournament implications.
The game was streamed on the NFHS Network, with full replay, box score, and highlights available for fans following Waterbury high school basketball and NVL boys basketball action.
