Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Chase Avenue Identified by Waterbury Police

WATERBURY, CT — Waterbury Police have identified the pedestrian who was fatally struck in a late-night crash earlier this week as Joseph Mackendy, 36, of Haiti, according to an updated press release issued by the department.

Waterbury Pedestrian Struck on Chase Ave Dies from Injuries

Police say the incident occurred on Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, at approximately 10:47 p.m., when patrol officers responded to the area of 581 Chase Avenue following reports of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers found that the pedestrian had sustained serious head injuries. He was transported to a local area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police confirmed that the vehicle involved and its operator remained on scene following the crash.

The incident remains an active and open investigation, currently being handled by the Waterbury Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU).
