WATERBURY, CT — Waterbury Police are investigating a serious single-vehicle crash involving an off-road utility vehicle early Wednesday morning.
On January 1, 2026, at approximately 6:28 a.m., Waterbury Police Officers responded to 737 Bank Street following reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a sign.
According to police, a CanAm UTV (off-road vehicle) was traveling southbound on Bank Street when the operator lost control amid slippery road conditions caused by active snowfall. The vehicle struck a sign located on the property at 737 Bank Street.
The 21-year-old male operator, a resident of Prospect, was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Police say he is suffering from serious head and body injuries that are considered life-threatening.
The crash remains an active and open investigation and is being handled by the Waterbury Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU).
