WATERBURY — The City of Waterbury has officially launched Alert Waterbury, a new emergency and community notification system designed to deliver real-time information directly to residents during emergencies, service disruptions, and major city updates.

December Water Main Break shut down water for nearly 60% of Cit

City officials say the system was developed in response to two major water main break incidents in October and December 2025, when residents experienced delays and confusion in receiving accurate information.

“Those incidents made it clear we needed a faster, more direct way to communicate with the public during large-scale disruptions,” Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski Jr. said in a statement. “Alert Waterbury allows us to share timely and reliable information during emergencies and for important city updates.”

How Alert Waterbury Works

Alert Waterbury is the city’s official notification platform and is available to residents on a voluntary and free basis. Messages are sent only to registered users, and residents can choose how they receive alerts — by phone call, text message, or email.

During registration, users can opt into specific alert categories, including:

Public Safety and City Operations
Alerts related to snow bans, road closures, public safety advisories, water service interruptions, extreme weather protocols, and the opening or closing of warming centers or shelters.

City Services and Operational Changes
Updates on trash and recycling schedules, office closures, seasonal services, and departmental schedule changes.

City News, Events, and Community Information
Notices about public meetings, tax reminders, library and recreation programs, cultural events, and other city initiatives.
