Waterbury Times Content Dispute Leads to Removal; Messages Show Escalation After Attribution Challenge
Waterbury, CT — A dispute over unauthorized use of a Waterbury Times image escalated this morning after Mike Ortiz reposted The Waterbury Times content with an altered watermark, prompting a direct challenge over ownership and attribution.
The image, originally produced and published by The Waterbury Times, was reposted without permission and modified in a way that misrepresented its origin. After being contacted, the individual removed the post.
Following the removal, a series of messages exchanged between the parties reflected a shift from the original attribution issue to personal remarks. In those messages, Mike Ortiz (MikeOrtiz888 ) FB handle- stated, “The post failed and was pulled. Your whole site and you are a failure anyways. Give up,” and later added, “I’m sorry you suck. There’s your apology.”
The Waterbury Times stands by its original reporting and visual content and does not permit unauthorized use, alteration, or redistribution without proper credit or approval.
This newsroom will continue to enforce ownership of its work and address misuse when it occurs.

Waterbury, CT — A Waterbury Times photograph was recently reposted online without permission and altered with an added watermark that did not originate from our newsroom by MIKE ORTIZ (mikeortiz888) known for taking content and reposting as his own original work.

The image, originally produced and published by The Waterbury Times, was later circulated by a third party who placed their own watermark on the work. The modification misrepresented the origin of the content.
