Waterbury Responds to Break in 42-Inch Water Transmission Line in Thomaston

WATERBURY, CT) — The City of Waterbury is responding to a break in a 42-inch water transmission line located in Thomaston on Waterbury Road, approximately one mile from the Waterbury town line.

According to city officials, the line is part of Waterbury’s water system. Crews from the Bureau of Water, along with Dayton Construction, are currently on site assessing the damage. Excavation work is underway to determine the full extent of the break.

Officials noted the affected section is located before the portion of Thomaston Avenue that previously underwent sliplining work as part of a $13 million infrastructure project completed earlier this year.

The transmission line has been shut down, and repair work is being prepared. Most materials needed for the repair are already on hand, with additional parts expected to arrive within the next one to two days.

At this time, no water service interruptions are expected for residents or businesses. However, some customers may experience temporary low water pressure or discoloration. Officials say any discolored water should clear once the system stabilizes, and residents are advised to run taps until water runs clear if affected.

Waterbury Road in the Thomaston area will remain closed with detours in place until repairs are completed.

City officials say they will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
