Waterbury- Residents across Waterbury are being encouraged to help stock local food shelves this weekend as members of the Waterbury state delegation partner with St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury for a community food drive outside City Hall.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the front steps of Waterbury City Hall.
Organizers say local state representatives will be outside City Hall collecting donations directly from residents in an effort to support families facing food insecurity throughout the city.
The drive comes as many community organizations continue seeing increased demand at food pantries and assistance programs due to rising grocery prices and ongoing financial strain for working families.
Among the food items currently needed:
- sugar
- coffee
- pasta sauce
- stuffing
- instant mashed potatoes
Additional nonperishable food donations are also encouraged.
Flyers for the event call on residents to “look for your Waterbury State Representatives” at the front entrance of City Hall during the collection drive.
St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury has long served residents in need through food assistance, outreach efforts, and emergency support programs across the city.
Community leaders say even small donations can make a difference for families struggling to keep food on the table.
