Waterbury Public Schools Honors Outstanding Student Attendance Through Ride 2 Success Program

WATERBURY— The City of Waterbury and Waterbury Public Schools will recognize four students for exceptional attendance during the 2025–2026 school year through the Ride 2 Success Attendance Raffle on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

The program highlights students in grades 3 through 8 who demonstrated consistent commitment to attending school throughout the academic year. As part of the recognition, selected students will receive a special ride to school on the final day of classes in City of Waterbury vehicles, accompanied by a friend from their school.

Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski Jr., Waterbury Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Darren Schwartz, Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo, and Waterbury Fire Chief Javier Lopez will take part in the event and personally help transport the students to their schools.

Honored Students:

  • Michael Coleman, Maloney Interdistrict Magnet School
  • Joniris De Los Angeles, Carrington Elementary School
  • Leah Parra-Hernandez, West Side Middle School
  • Azania Mokgosi, Hopeville Elementary School

A recognition ceremony will be held at 8:00 a.m. at the Chase Building, 236 Grand Street. Students and their families will gather for light refreshments, certificate presentations, and group photos before departing for their schools.

“Regular school attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success,” Mayor Pernerewski said. “These students have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to their education throughout the school year. We are proud to recognize their dedication and celebrate their achievement in a fun and memorable way.”

Dr. Darren Schwartz added, “Every day in school matters. Consistent attendance helps students build strong academic habits, stay connected to their teachers and peers, and maximize their opportunities for success. We are thrilled to honor these students and thank their families for supporting their educational journey.”

The Ride 2 Success Attendance Raffle is part of ongoing efforts by Waterbury Public Schools to promote regular attendance and recognize students who make education a priority.
