WATERBURY — National Voter Registration Day is being marked in Waterbury on Tuesday evening with a local gathering designed to help residents register, update their voter information and learn more about the history of voting rights in the United States.

NEST and LEAD are hosting the community event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at LEAD, 96 Bank St.

The evening will include a voter registration station, music provided by a DJ, light refreshments and an opportunity for attendees to learn about the history of voting rights in America.

The event is open to residents who may need to register to vote, update their voter information or simply want to participate in an evening centered around civic engagement.

National Voter Registration Day is observed across the country as an opportunity to encourage eligible Americans to register and make sure their voter information is current.

For organizers in Waterbury, the emphasis is local: making civic participation accessible to residents and creating an opportunity for people to learn more about the voting process.

“Your voice matters. Your participation matters,” organizers said in announcing the event.

The event runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight at LEAD, 96 Bank St.
