Waterbury-As the final day of summer arrive, Waterbury turns the page on another season — one that brought moments of celebration, moments of heartbreak, and reminders of the resilience that defines this city.
Summer 2026 was not without its challenges.
We witnessed tragedy, including a devastating fire that left a city block forever changed and a Fourth of July murder that brought pain to families and a community searching for answers. These moments became part of the summer’s story, reminders that even during the months traditionally associated with joy and togetherness, communities still face difficult days.
But Waterbury’s story has never been defined by its hardest moments alone.
Throughout the summer, residents continued to show up for one another. Neighborhoods came together. Local businesses kept their doors open. Families gathered. Young people played, competed, and created memories. Community events gave residents reasons to celebrate the city they call home.
As summer came to a close, Waterbury celebrated together once again during the Puerto Rican Day Parade this past weekend — a showcase of culture, pride, music, and the traditions that continue to make this city unique.
That is Waterbury.
