After helping Waterbury residents stay informed during the city’s watermain crisis, the regional talent is preparing to perform at a young professional talent show in Bristol. Now, The Waterbury Times is returning the favor.

Bristol- Community support has a way of crossing city lines.

When Waterbury faced its watermain crisis, Melina Floyd used her platform to share updates and help residents learn that The Waterbury Times was delivering water to the community.

Now, Floyd is preparing to take the stage herself, and The Waterbury Times is happy to return that show of support by helping spread the word about her upcoming performance.

Floyd is among the talent connected to Off the Clock, a young professional talent show presented by PYVOT, the Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce’s young professionals network. The event is scheduled for Friday, November 6, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Rockwell Theatre in Bristol.

The show is seeking 10 to 12 high-level performers between the ages of 21 and 40 from across Connecticut. Rob Santos will serve as emcee, bringing together an evening dedicated to showcasing the region’s young professional talent.

Organizers are also seeking sponsors for the first-, second- and third-place winners. Businesses and individuals can support the event by sponsoring a prize or a performer in exchange for marketing opportunities.

General admission tickets are $15, with discounted $10 admission for PYVOT members. Tickets are available through the Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce’s online portal at business.centralctchambers.org.

For Waterbury residents, Floyd’s upcoming performance offers an opportunity to support someone who took time to support their community when it mattered. Her decision to share information about The Waterbury Times’ water distribution efforts helped residents learn where they could find assistance during a difficult moment for the city.

Now, the favor is being returned—not because the two events were planned together, but because recognizing people who show up for a community is worth doing.

On November 6, the spotlight will be in Bristol. Waterbury can help make sure Melina Floyd gets some love along the way.
