
Waterbury, CT — A local family’s home was destroyed in a deliberate fire last Friday, in what authorities are describing as a chaotic and dangerous incident involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
According to family members and police reports, the incident began when the daughter’s ex-boyfriend broke into the home while the family was sleeping and stole her iPad. By tracking the device, authorities located the suspect. He initially fled from police but later returned to the residence, setting the home on fire.
The fire destroyed the family’s home, all of their belongings, and lost their pet cat. No injuries were reported.
Prior to the blaze the suspect went on a multi town escape attempt including an attempted car theft in Bethany before being apprehended by State Police Trooper I in Brookfield CT.
The family, which includes a truck driver and medical professionals, are currently staying with relatives as they recover from the traumatic event. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact the Waterbury Police Department.
