Waterbury, CT — A local family is recovering after their home was deliberately set on fire last Friday in a shocking act of arson. Authorities say the incident was connected to a break-in that occurred earlier in the night.
According to family members, the perpetrator was the ex-boyfriend of the daughter, who had entered the home while the family was asleep and stole her iPad. Using the device’s location tracking, police were able to locate the suspect. He initially fled from authorities but reportedly returned to the residence and set it on fire.
The fire destroyed the family’s home, all of their belongings, and their pet cat. No injuries were reported. The family, whose members include a truck driver and medical professionals, are currently staying with relatives as they work to recover from the traumatic event.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident. Meanwhile, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover temporary housing, replace essential items, and begin rebuilding their lives.
