UPDATE: Waterbury Bicycle Crash Victim in Serious Condition, Investigation Ongoing
WATERBURY, CT — Waterbury Police have released additional information following a serious crash involving a bicycle earlier today.
Early reports of child being struck by a vehicle have now been confirmed to be false and the rider was in fact a 42 years man from Derby.
On March 20, 2026, at approximately 12:52 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Charles Street and Fifth Street for a reported accident involving a bicyclist.
Upon arrival, officers determined that an SUV and a bicyclist had collided at the intersection.
The operator of the bicycle, a 42-year-old man from Derby, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Authorities say he remains in serious condition, though his injuries are not considered life-threatening at this time.
The incident remains under active investigation by the Waterbury Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU). The area around Charles Street and Fifth Street was temporarily closed as officers processed the scene.
Police are asking anyone with information related to the crash to contact the CRU at (203) 346-3975 or to leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at (203) 755-1234.

WATERBURY, CT — A serious motor vehicle accident allegedly, involving a child on a bicycle occurred around 1:00 PM at the intersection of Charles Street and 5th Street.
Authorities confirmed that the child sustained serious injuries, prompting a trauma alert response. Emergency crews arrived quickly and the victim was transported for urgent medical care.
