WATERBURY, CT – The City of Waterbury Water Department will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing programduring the week of April 1, 2026. How It Works

Flushing will be conducted sequentially across Zones 1 through 20, and the program is expected to take approximately three months. Work will occur Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

During flushing, residents and businesses may notice:

  • Temporary fluctuations in water pressure
  • Brief water discoloration due to harmless sediment stirred in the mains

Although the water remains safe to use, residents are advised to avoid running washing machines, dishwashers, or other appliances during flushing in their area to prevent discolored laundry. Typically, water clarity returns within a few minutes, but if discoloration persists longer than two hours, residents should contact the Water Department at (203) 574-8251 (press 1).

Check Your Zone

The City has released maps and street lists for all 20 flushing zones

Residents are encouraged to review the schedule to know when their neighborhood will be affected.

Why This Matters

This annual maintenance program ensures the continued safety, quality, and reliability of Waterbury’s drinking water system. The City thanks residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation while crews complete this important work.
