Waterbury- After a one-year hiatus, one of Waterbury’s most anticipated grassroots basketball events is making its return.

The “Class vs Class” showcase, created to highlight top high school talent across the city and the NVL, is officially back on April 3rd—bringing together standout players from each grade level for a night built on competition, pride, and community.
But for organizer and founder of the Born2Hoop program, Jordan Craig, the event has always meant more than just basketball.
“The goal has always been bigger than basketball,” he said. “Through Born2Hoop, we’re creating opportunities that keep kids engaged, active, and off the streets.”
Since its launch two years ago, Class vs Class has served as both a proving ground and a platform—connecting local athletes, building exposure, and reinforcing the importance of structured outlets for youth. The program has continued to expand, now offering training, tournaments, and AAU opportunities for players across the area.
The impact is already showing.
The event’s first MVP, Elijah Parker, a former Holy Cross standout, has since gone on to play at the collegiate level at Central Connecticut State University—an example of the level of talent and opportunity the showcase continues to attract.
This year’s lineup features a strong mix of emerging and established players across all classes:
Players to Watch
Freshmen: Cam Ortiz, Kori Kinsey, Ju Robinson
Sophomores: Shalen Barnes, Julian Benjamin, Marcellus Robinson
Juniors: Sein Garner, Julian Jones, Tyler Morrison
Seniors: Casleem Washington, John Napiello, Maekhi Weaver
With talent stacked across every level, the event is expected to once again draw attention from across the local basketball community.
Organizers also credited key community partners for helping bring the event back.
Support from B.L.A.C. (Building Legacy and Community), the City of Waterbury Parks & Recreation Department, and local media platform The Waterbury Times has played an important role in making the showcase possible.
As the city continues to invest in youth engagement and development, events like Class vs Class represent more than a game—they reflect a growing movement centered on opportunity, mentorship, and exposure.
On April 3rd, that movement returns to the court.
And for the players involved, it’s more than a matchup—it’s a moment.
