SECOND ANNUAL “OH BOY, 5K FOR US” RETURNS TO WATERBURY ON MEMORIAL DAY

The Waterbury Times|Community Events|Published May 5, 2026

WATERBURY, CT — The Second Annual Oh Boy, 5K for Us will take place on Monday, May 25, 2026 (Memorial Day), bringing together runners, walkers, families, and community members for a morning of remembrance, fitness, and local pride.

The event honors Attorney Eugene “Gene” DeFronzo, a well-known endurance runner who completed 766 marathons during his lifetime. Organizers say the race serves as both a tribute to his legacy and a community gathering centered on perseverance and service.

The 5K will begin at 8:15 a.m. at 300 Grand Street in Waterbury.

Community Purpose

Organizers describe the event as more than a race.

“Second Annual 5K… Because we have a reason,” the event slogan reads, underscoring the race’s focus on purpose, remembrance, and community connection.
