Waterbury- A moving new independent film exploring memory, caregiving, and identity is coming to Brass Mill Center this week as Watching Mr. Pearson receives a special screening at Apple Cinemas Waterbury on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
The emotionally driven drama follows two caregivers, Caroline and Miguel, as they care for Robert Pearson — a once brilliant actor now struggling with cognitive decline. While Miguel relies on structure and routine, Caroline develops a deeper and more imaginative connection with Pearson, stepping into moments from his past to help him remain emotionally connected to the world around him. As reality and performance begin to blur, the story examines what it truly means to care for someone slowly losing pieces of themselves.
Ahead of the screening, The Waterbury Times spoke with one of the film’s producers about the deeper impact of the story and why bringing the film to Waterbury matters.
According to one of the producer, Watching Mr. Pearson is meant to spark conversations about aging, caregiving, memory loss, and the emotional weight families and caregivers often quietly carry every day.
“This story is really about human connection,” the producer explained. “A lot of people have watched a loved one fade in some way — whether through dementia, illness, or time itself. We wanted to tell that story with empathy and imagination.”
The producer also highlighted the importance of screening the project locally in Waterbury, saying independent films thrive when communities actively support arts and storytelling.
“Cities like Waterbury have real stories, real people, and real audiences,” they said. “There’s something special about bringing a film like this into a community setting where people can experience it together.”
The screening at Apple Cinemas is expected to draw local film supporters, creatives, caregivers, and residents interested in independent cinema with emotional depth and social relevance.
