Waterbury Responding to Another Major Transmission Line Break in Thomaston

The Waterbury Times|Breaking News|Published May 21, 2026

Waterbury- Waterbury officials are responding to another break in the city’s critical 42-inch water transmission line in Thomaston, marking the second major issue involving the same pipeline in less than a month.

According to city officials, the break occurred on Waterbury Road in Thomaston, approximately one mile from the Waterbury line. The damaged section is located roughly 50 feet north of the area repaired following the April 24, 2026 transmission line break.

Crews from the Waterbury Bureau of Water, alongside Dayton Construction, are currently on scene excavating the area and assessing the full extent of the damage.

At this time, officials say no residents or businesses are expected to lose water service. However, some customers may notice temporary drops in water pressure or discolored water while repairs continue.

Residents experiencing discolored water are advised to run cold water faucets until the water clears.

City officials estimate repairs could take between five and seven days to complete. During that time, Waterbury Road in Thomaston will remain closed in the affected area, with detours in place.

The city says it will continue monitoring the situation and release additional updates as they become available.
