WATERBURY, Conn. — One of three individuals charged in connection with the May 6 fatal shooting of Daniel Peart made his first appearance in Waterbury Superior Court Monday.
Tyquise Kinnel, 18, is charged with first-degree assault and breach of peace in connection with the homicide investigation. Court records show Kinnel is being held on a $500,000 bond.
Kinnel is one of three suspects arrested following the shooting death of Peart, a 20-year-old Hartford resident who was found suffering from a gunshot wound on Easton Avenue during the early morning hours of May 6.
The most serious charges in the case have been filed against Saron McKenna, 17, who has been charged with murder along with several additional felony firearm-related offenses. McKenna was initially processed through the juvenile court system before his case was transferred to the adult criminal docket due to the nature of the allegations.
McKenna is scheduled to return to court on June 9, 2026. A review of publicly available court records found no prior criminal cases associated with his name.
A third defendant, Lucas Henry, 19, is also charged with first-degree assault and breach of peace. Henry is scheduled to appear in court on June 25, 2026. Court records indicate Henry was previously participating in a Family Violence Education Program stemming from a September 2025 case.

According to investigators, Waterbury police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the Easton Avenue area at approximately 3:14 a.m. on May 6. Upon arrival, officers located Peart suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police later announced the arrests of McKenna, Kinnel and Henry following an investigation into the homicide.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive in the case, and prosecutors have not alleged a motive during court proceedings. Community speculation regarding the circumstances leading to the shooting has circulated online, but no motive has been officially confirmed by investigators.
McKenna remains held on a multimillion-dollar bond while Kinnel remains detained on a $500,000 bond.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the case is encouraged to contact the Waterbury Police Department Detective Bureau.
Editor’s Note: All criminal charges are allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
