The Waterbury Times|June 24, 2026

WATERBURY — A section of West Main Street near One Exchange experienced active water flowing into the roadway Wednesday morning during ongoing construction work, according to on-scene observations and worker accounts.

The water appeared to be coming from below the street surface in the work zone, where crews are currently engaged in road and infrastructure improvements. Workers on site indicated the issue may be related to a damaged pipe during the construction process, though the exact cause has not yet been officially confirmed.

At the time of observation, water was visibly flowing across portions of the roadway before appearing to be brought under control by crews.

Construction personnel on site said they were informed by a water department representative that the water remains safe to drink. That statement has not yet been independently confirmed by city officials.

The Waterbury Times has reached out to city officials for clarification regarding the cause of the water release, the status of repairs, and whether any impact to local water service or infrastructure is expected.

As of now, the situation appears to be stabilized on scene, though repairs and assessment work are ongoing.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
