WATERBURY — A Waterbury teenager is in critical condition following a serious crash involving a dirt bike and an SUV on Thomaston Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Waterbury Police Department, officers responded around 4:16 p.m. on July 22, 2026, to the 500 block of Thomaston Avenue for a reported serious motor vehicle accident involving an SUV and a dirt bike.

Police said the 18-year-old dirt bike operator from Waterbury suffered serious, life-threatening injuries to multiple areas of his body, including his head. He remains hospitalized and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The driver of the SUV and the vehicle’s occupants sustained minor injuries, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Waterbury Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU).
