Waterbury- Residents affected by Tuesday’s major water main break on Tompkins Street will have access to bottled water beginning Wednesday afternoon, as city crews continue working to restore service.

5,100 Waterbury Homes and Businesses Expected to Lose Water Service Due to Major Water Main Break

The City of Waterbury announced a bottled water distribution site at Municipal Stadium, 1200 Watertown Avenue, North Parking Lot. The site will be open:

• Wednesday, July 29 — 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• Thursday, July 30 — 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Residents who remain without water can receive one case of bottled water per household, while supplies last.

The water main break, which occurred Tuesday, disrupted service for portions of the city. Water Department crews remain at the scene working to complete repairs and restore service.

“Restoring water service remains our top priority,” Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. said. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents as our crews continue working around the clock.”

City officials said that once water service is restored, affected customers will be placed under a Boil Water Advisory as a precaution while required water quality testing is completed.

Residents under the advisory should bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for:

• Drinking
• Cooking
• Brushing teeth
• Making ice
• Washing fruits and vegetables
• Preparing infant formula

The advisory will remain in effect until testing confirms that water quality meets state and federal drinking water standards.

The city said additional updates will be released as repair work progresses.
